Brad’s Musings and Meanderings

random acts of quoting

"That wax eater of yours is no different from the rest!" - Mae Busch, "Sons of the Desert"

pav.jpgIt had been quite a while since we had actually visited the Pavillion in Myrtle Beach. It was one of those places that I always recalled with great fondness, but as I got older, I was never up for revisiting it in all its head-spinning nauseating glory. I had first gone there with Christi in 1989, and made several return visits throughout the early and mid-1990’s. It was here that I first ‘tricked’ Ashleigh into riding her first upside-down roller coaster by telling her that it didn’t really go upside down - it just ‘corkscrewed.’ She loved it.

pav3.jpgBut during our 2006 trip to Myrtle Beach, I decided that we had better go enjoy it one last time since it was going to be closed and leveled after this, its 58th, year. Mom, Ashleigh, Briana, and I bought a ream of tickets and then set out to be shaken, spun, and gyrated in every possible direction on such thrill rides as the Gravitron (which almost stole my tickets - they fell out of my pocket during the ride and a worker had to retrieve them after we exited!), the Hurricane, the Mad Mouse, and the Haunted Hotel. This was where we spent our Tuesday evening on August 1, 2006.

pav2.jpgAfter we had finished with the park, bought our souvenir magnets, and bid our farewell, we went across the street and tried out the Ripley Haunted Adventure. I have come to the conclusion that these attractions can no longer scare me, although I seemed to have been in the minority of our group. pav7.jpgBriana was initially petrified to the point of wanting to leave the journey before it even started. Once we were inside, I led the way, while Ashleigh and Briana burrowed their heads in my back. Even the other men and women slinking through the haunted scenes seemed to be genuinely scared.
