I met Heidi Maynard during my junior year of high school. She was already friends with Lance Patak and it was through him that I first got to know her. She had the distinction of being pretty, funny, and exceptionally sweet and good-natured. Although I don’t think we ever had a single class together, I would often see her in the halls before and after school and during the time between our classes. Once in a while Lance and I would visit her at her house in Beavercreek and I know that we occassionally took her out to do things with us.
Since she was more of Lance’s friend than mine, I really never recall seeing her much once we graduated from high school. I know I did run into her one time at the Palace Club around 1993, but after that it was nearly fifteen years before I would see her again.
I found Heidi on MySpace - not surprisingly as one of Lance’s friends. We began communicating during the latter half of 2007. She felt it might be disruptive to her domestic life for us to meet up - which I completely understood. But at the beginning of the year, her circumstances changed and we were finally we were able to meet up. She had been busily raising her three little girls at her home in Beavercreek, working part-time at Miami Valley Hospital.
In one of those exceptionally bizarre twists of fate, Heidi currently lives just two doors down from my old house on Winterset Drive. In fact, she lives in the house that belonged to the Hindses, grandparents to Chrissy Hinds, one of Denise’s old friends from our neighborhood - and I had been in the house several times before. Not to downplay my excitement of seeing Heidi again, but I was also thrilled to be able to see the inside of this house which I hadn’t seen in probably twenty years. And of course, I took the chance to scan my former home and the rest of the ol’ neighborhood as well.

Heidi and the former Hinds house
Heidi and I met up on Saturday, February 9, 2008 and went out to lunch at the Kettering Italian Oven (Las Piramidas didn’t open for twenty minutes so we switched gears). It was fun to both reminisce and catch up, chat about our kids, current state of relationships, our friend Lance, her trip to California, and her friend who was dating the bassist from Duran Duran before he passed away. She asked if I minded if we drove by her old house in Centerville and I told her not unless she minded stopping at the cemetery where my Grandparents were buried. If nothing else made her think I was a strange bird, that must have. But she already knew that about me anyways.

It was certainly fun to hang out with Heidi and I hope we can get together again soon. I know Jackie’s daughter Grace would really love playing with her three adorable girls.
Return to February 2008…
Continue to the next reunion…
I never knew this guy in high school, he’s just some out of control stalker that wouldn’t leave me alone til I agreed to have lunch with him!

Just joking about the stalker thing.
Brad, your posting is very kind and I enjoyed our little adventures almost as much as I enjoyed the company. I hope we can all get together soon.

Heidi,
You look amazing! I would recognize you in a crowd of 1000’s!
I would love to catch up one day.
Somehow I think Brad is creating a reunion for all of us to come home to one day, reuniting all of us.
I miss you!
Lance
