I had the day after Thanksgiving off of work plus the weekend, so following the brutal stuffing of myself that occurred on Thursday night, I had three days to recuperate. With all of the leftover turkey, I decided that I would eat guilt-free for the weekend - complete with soda and dessert with every meal. When all was said and done, I had gained about three pounds since Thursday morning. But today, being Monday, I return to the grind of work and more restrained dietary selections.
Most of the break and weekend was spent lazing around. Ashleigh went Christmas shopping Friday morning, so I took the time to watch TV and work on this website. In the evening I headed over to Bob’s sister Sherry and her husband Dave’s place for another Thanksgiving meal. As if the leftovers weren’t enough that morning, I ate even more turkey, stuffing, pie, and the works. My Mom, Bob, Denise, Aaron, Adam, and Ashleigh all met me there.
After Ashleigh and I got home, we took down the Christmas tree from the attic. She had purchased the DVD Saw II that day and was anxious to watch it…and put off erecting the tree. But when Christi and Creed came over to help, she couldn’t get out of it, so we spent an enjoyable evening listening to Christmas music and decorating for the holiday.
On Saturday morning, Ashleigh and I finally got to watch Saw II. It was good - nice and bloody. Chris Tangeman stopped by to drop off a CD, pick up his Pink Floyd collection, and pick up a copy of the Crash Test Dummies opus Jingle All the Way, one of the coolest and quirkiest Christmas albums of all time.
Then that evening, I went over to Bill and Dottie’s to see their new house in Vandalia. We had an enjoyable evening talking, going through photos, and watching the video tape of the sermon that Jimmy Carter taught at Maranatha (click here for more details). They even treated me to Pizza Hut. Good stuff and an evil contributor to the extra pounds this weekend.
Sunday was football day. Despite the raging 60-degree weather outside, I was forced to stay in and enjoy my last day of pigging out and watching a triple-header of games. That is, of course, after Ashleigh and I watched a couple of episodes of Desperate Housewives in the morning before she had to leave for work. Cincinnati creamed Cleveland in a 30-0 shut-out, their first since their shutout in Cleveland on December 3, 1989, a game I actually attended. Then the Patriots triumphed over the Bears, my most hated team. And finally, Indianapolis defeated Philidelphia.
And that’s what Thanksgiving is all about: food, family, football, and Saw II.
