"...But where would I find such a man? Why am I asking you." - Hedley Lamarr, "Blazing Saddles"

arkansasflag.gifOn May 17, 1990, Christi, Joy, Ashleigh, and I left for a weekend trip to visit with Christi’s aunt Bonnie and uncle Don. Joy seemed to be closest with this one of her four sisters at the time, and was anxious to show off Ashleigh, who was at this time just approaching the two-month mark. We stayed with them at their house.

We were only in Little Rock, Arkansas for two days and were on the road the better part of two days, returning on May 20. I wish I could record more of the events that take place during the trip, but as of now, I have found no photographs. If any exist, Joy would be the one that has them and is currently looking for some.

I can only remember three things from this trip: watching Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan via rented video, telling ghost stories to Christi’s cousins and their little friends, and driving around Christi’s old neighborhood where she grew up and seeing her old house. Christi was born in Columbus, Georgia and moved to Little Rock when she was little. Eventually she moved to Beavercreek when she was in Junior High when her Dad was transferred with the military.

The ghost story that I told was the old tale about the couple who are on a dark, deserted road and hear a radio broadcast about an escaped lunatic with a hook for a hand (as heard in Meatballs). At the end of the story, I revealed a ‘hooked’ hand that I had fashioned out of a bent clotheshanger and all of the kids screamed in terror.

This seems like as good a place as any to show off a letter that Christi received from the Governor’s wife as a response to a letter that Christi wrote following Hillary Rodham Clinton’s visit to her grade school. This letter was in my posession for nearly ten years, but I just returned it to Christi earlier this year.
