We arrived at The Links, my Grandpa’s condo in Myrtle Beach on Saturday, July 29. The first night is always fun - knowing you have an entire week ahead of you, not worrying about wasting time, just kicking back in the condo after the long car drive. Grandpa bought us all pizza and then we headed up to the pool for a nice evening swim. Following the drive, the dinner, and the swim, I had no trouble falling asleep on the couch, my designated slumber area.
On Sunday we spent the bulk of the day at the Windy Shores condo where we met up with Darlene and her family. They had arrived before check-in time and spent the waiting period at the pool - getting nice sunburns. The Windy Shores condos hold a lot of great memories for me and the many times we spent vacationing there, although Darlene has a room on the fourth floor that is different than the one I am used to staying in. Bob came seperately from the other Robinsons, but once he arrived, he offered to grill out for us. We all enjoyed a great meal and then I took Ashleigh, Briana, Jacob, Zack, and their friend out for some traditional miniature golf at The Hawaiian Rumble.

We got down to the nitty-gritty on Monday with the traditional goings-on at the Links swimming pool, including the cut-throat competitions. Darlene and her kids came over to spend the day at the pool with us. Ashleigh and Briana entered the swimming contest in which they had to swim to the bottom of the deep end of the pool and retrieve colored sticks. Different colors were of different values. In the end Briana was the victor, although Ashleigh put forth a valiant effort.

I encouraged Brittney to enter the adult competition, but she said she would only do it if I did. She had an advantage over most entrants as she had goggles. There was a second way to get a trophy in this contest and that was finding the coveted yellow ring, of which there was only one, at the bottom of the pool. When we dove in, I immediately located the ring. Having secured my trophy, I handed all of the colored sticks over to Brittney. She had done so well with her goggles though, that she didn’t need the bonus sticks. We were each awarded with a prestigious trophy.

The next contest was the hula hoop contest, so we thought that Ashleigh was secure in winning this competition - and thus, we would all have a trophy. However, there was a sleeper contestant in the form of Briana, and she ended up winning in a surprise turn of events. This skewed the allocation of trophies with Brittney and I each rece
iving one, Briana getting two, and poor Ashleigh with none.
This was a situation that demanded rectification. Efforts were put forth throughout the week, about which you will read by following the Myrtle Beach trail.
